Built by writers, for writers.
Kristin Knight Pace
FOUNDERBefore my memoir, This Much Country, was published in 2019, I knew nothing about the book publishing industry. My three-year-long publication journey was eye-opening and as obstacle-laden as the Iditarod Trail, which I completed in 2016. I learned about the intricate hoops through which one must jump to succeed in the traditional publishing world, guided by a team of extremely talented women. I recognized right away that this process is prohibitive for most Alaskan writers, and I wanted to do something to make the possibility of publishing more likely locally. I knew that with my past career as the executive editor of an outdoors-focused magazine as well as my journalism background, I could be of service to Alaskan writers, helping to push their words out into the world. Since This Much Country, I have completed three works of fiction. I’ve also taught numerous writing workshops to writers with a wide variety of manuscripts. I believe in the promise of this small literary press and am excited to help mint some new Alaskan authors!
AP has been writing for notably small & private audiences (usually of one) for a very long time. He studied poetry at University of Iowa & was the Peter Kaplan Poetry Fellow at Brown University. After completing all coursework for his PhD at the University of Denver, he fled academia, pursuing another childhood dream of homesteading in Alaska & running a dog team. Two Yukon Quests later & back on the road system with his beautiful family, he is ready to turn his attention again to the arts, enthralled by this place & the ethic & pluck of its people. Arctic Tern Press honors the DIY ethos so critical both to Alaskans & to the purveyors of all things punk rock from his youth.
